Farewell to summer shoes

I recently re-organized my shoes for the upcoming season. I pushed the summer shoes – sandals, ballerinas and pumps – to the back for the boots and booties to take over the front, leaving a couple of pairs of dark pumps within reach too, just in case. As I peeked into shoe box after shoe box, I started to feel blue. I found so many beautiful pairs that I didn't wear even nearly enough during the summer. The navy pumps in the first photo, with the flirty bow at the back, were bought from the sales in January and all winter I dreamed of wearing them. I wore them once. As for the stunning colorblock ballerinas below, I wore them a couple of times early summer, but after June I completely forgot about them. And there's many more. Summer is just so short and you get too accustomed to wearing the same favorites over and over again. And of course you usually pick the pair that you know definitely won't cause any blisters or discomfort as pumps too often tend to do...

I couldn't help making some calculations and I came into the conclusion that I've managed to build a shoe collection of which 80% of can only be worn for 35% of the year. Oops, that doesn't sound quite right. From this we can only make the following observations; a) the Finnish summer is way too short and b) wintershoes are so boring that I only buy them when I must. Well, I've never doubted the a-point, but what about b? Indeed, why do winter shoes never make my heart skip a beat like their summery cousins do? I know. It's the lack of color and usually a somewhat clumsier silhouette. Not that I'd dare to risk ruining my shoes by wearing much else than black calf leather when there's sleet or snow on the ground. I can only longingly gaze at this vibrant bunch and prepare myself for the long dark period where the shoes to choose from are black, black and black.

Hei hei ihanat kesäkenkäni, tervemenoa talviunille ja nähdään taas toukokuussa! *snif*

Goodbye my lovely summer shoes, have a good rest and see you again in May! *sigh*

Grey & pink

Harmaa on kiehtonut minua kovin viime aikoina.

Grey has intrigued me a lot lately. Which is kinda funny as normally I'm craving color. But grey is so beautiful and serene in all it's subdued glory and not nearly as harsh as black for us pale people. It's a fresh option for the usual autumn colors like mustard and burgundy that I might have been wearing a little too much lately. I'm also getting bored of jeans, so this grey skort was a good choice for a foggy day. And I didn't even feel cold, thanks to my long and warm boots!

I'm a bit lost now the weather has cooled down, cause I don't actually own many sweaters. The one in this outfit is a great find from my own closet. It was bought way back in 2005 when I was a few sizes bigger, but once I lost weight, I never used it anymore as I liked my clothes tight back then. The old sweater somehow popped into my mind again and I was so excited to discover how great it looks now! Just like pink looks great with grey. This outfit was a nice change from all the burgundy and jeans that I've worn all autumn.

This same location also served as the backdrop for one of my summer outfits and it's interesting to look at the photos and see how the nature has changed in the past three months. The thick fog added it's own charm to these new photos.

Outfit with the new burgundy coat

My new coat finally made it to outfit photos and it's ever so gorgeous and lovely! As for the footwear, I went with my favourite winter shoes, aka the suede over the knee boots. It's a bit strange as I'm used to writing quite a lot about my outfits, but I've already told you about the coat and the boots before and the pairing here is really simple too, so there isn't much to say really. Despite the lack of things to say, I really liked this outfit myself.

This is how most of my winter outfits are built anyway; winter coat, jeans and boots. I'm afraid this combination might get a little too familiar in the upcoming five months or so... To be honest I've been slightly worried about what happens to my outfit photos during the winter, but as I get used to the cold a bit and get my head around to taking my coat off in the freezing outdoors, then of course I'm planning to show you the outfits underneath too. But for this post I wanted to let the coat be the star!

Autumn colors and red soles

Once upon a time there was a morning when my head was buzzing with outfit ideas, but the contents of my wardrobe didn't match those ideas at all. The yellow leaves made me want to wear mustard from head to toe, but even though yellow has always been my favorite color, the only mustard clothes I have are one sweater and one dress. Another idea that was hauting me was a fresh, light colored ensemble, maybe in shades of grey, but I didn't have the ingredients for that either. I'd already decided to go for the mustard dress until I changed my mind at the very last moment and this is what I ended up with.

Very simple yet again, autumnal plum and that mustard for colors. I was also wearing the necklace made by my mother that you've seen before and it really is a great piece to make a basic outfit more interesting. I think I need some more statement necklaces!

I slipped these my red soled beauties on my feet for the first time in ages. I'm not usually after designer goods, but Christian Louboutin's shoes were something I absolutely fell in love with when I first saw them in 2006 and thought that one day I'll have such shoes too. I found these oxfords combining black leather and eggplant suede from the big Louboutin sale at TheOutnet three years ago and as I'd already been dreaming of this exact pair for a while, I allowed myself a little splurge... I really need to take these to the cobbler though for those red rubber soles, because the leather soles do wear off really quickly and because of that I haven't been able to wear these as much as I'd like.

Nämä kuvat olivat muuten ajalta ennen tätä lämpötilojen romahdusta, reaaliaikaisuus ei ole parhaimpia puoliani bloggarina... Vähän kyllä vilutti näitäkin kuvia näpsiessä, oli nimittäin aika tuulista kuten allaolevasta kuvaparista näkyy!

These photos were taken before the drastic temperature drop, being up-to-date is not one of my best features as a blogger... It was quite chilly taking these photos though as it was very windy as you can see from the two photos below!

Mukavaa sunnuntai-iltaa ja energistä uutta viikkoa!

Have a nice Sunday evening and an energetic new week!

Ostamisen sietämätön vaikeus

Mikäs se sieltä paperikassista pilkistääkään? Esittelin teille syyskuun alkupuolella viininpunaisen takki-ihanuuden, johon menin epähuomiossa ihastumaan Stockalla.

What's that peeking out of the paper bag? In early September I showed you a certain gorgeous burgundy coat that I accidentally happened to fall in love with. Ted Baker's Adalya coat was not only perfect, but also a little pricier than my clothes normally are. My reasoning for the potential purchase made such perfect sense that I even managed to convince myself. Though I did mention in the end that "to actually take it to the counter or press that "confirm order" button is a whole other story for a frugal procrastinator like me..." and how right was I.

There was a special offer for the coat at a local department store during September and I knew I had to make my decision before my trip to Rome at the end of September. So a couple of days before takeoff, I headed to Stockmann with the coat in my mind. I'd even had a dream the night before that it was sold out and in the dream I begged the sales assistant to track it down from another location... In reality I first popped into a couple of other stores to check out their coat selection hoping to find a more affordable stunner, then went to try on the Ted Baker coat that didn't fit quite right that time.

Relieved, I looked at some other things in the meantime, but then still returned to the Ted Baker coats and took another copy of it to try on. And it fit just perfectly, dammit! I had it on for a while, then wandered around the store with the coat in my hands unable to make a decision. Tried it once more. I could always come back tomorrow, I thought and took the coat back to it's place. I was already on the escalator on the way down until I got worried that someone else might buy that perfectly fitting one and went back up. I pondered for a while and left it on reservation. I didn't really have time to go there again, but the next morning I found myself there shortly after opening. I went straight to the counter, didn't even try it on again and a few minutes later I stepped out with a big paperbag.

Typical me! I read this theory somewhere – unfortunately I don't remember where anymore and couldn't find it either – that there's two kinds of buyers. Those who are always looking for the perfect one spending loads of time comparing different options, prices, etc. and those who just buy as soon as they find one that's good enough without longing for other options. I don't think there's any doubt about which category I fit into... I kept thinking whether I could find a better coat somewhere and whether I could have gotten this cheaper later on. And apparently those who buy good enough are usually happier with their purchases that those who look for perfection!

Despite all this, almost four weeks after the purchase, I can say that I'm very happy with the coat! Yes, it was expensive, but I'll be wearing it for a long time and if there's some a Finn should invest in, it's the wintercoat. Besides I'm still absolutely sold on that burgundy color as well as the gorgeous and versatile collar. This will cheer me up on many cold winter days and I'm sure you'll see it in a few outfit photos too!

Outfit amidst the yellow leaves

And the yellow leaves theme continues for a set of outfit photos. On Saturday I decided to enjoy the very last moments of pumps season before my weather appropriate shoe selection narrows down considerably and I even braved the autumn weather by going out in just a blazer. I don't (for once!) actually have much to say about the outfit, I've already written about all the individual pieces before. I love this outfit, it already earned it's status as my go-to autumn outfit last year. The purple blazer brings a bit of color alongside the monochromy, and the distinct necklace as well as the waxcoating and zip details of the jeans save the understated outfit from becoming boring. So simple and so easy, but works like a charm! And so did the location of these photos, those yellow leaves are just so incredibly stunning and picturesque!

Bittersweet autumn

Vaivauduin harmaana keskiviikkona pienelle kuvausretkelle ajatuksena ikuistaa syksyn lehdet ja ehkä kirjoittaa oheen teksti siitä kuinka tämä vuodenaika nostaa minussa pinnalle melankolian. Vähenevä auringonvalo vetää mielen maahan, päällimmäisenä mielessä on haikeus.

On a gloomy Wednesday I went on a little photo walk with the intention of capturing the autumn leaves and maybe writing an accompanying text about how this season brings out the melancholic in me. The reducing amount of sunlight gets me down and I long for the warmth and the carefree summertime that's still fresh in my memory... But then the sun came out and the world looks so beautiful again! You just can't dive into melancholy on days like these, so instead I'll just wish you a great and sunny Sunday with these photos!

Warming up in over the knee boots and fluffy cardigan

Finally my beloved over the knee boots are making their blog debut! If there's one thing to look forward to in the declining temperatures, for me it's definitely the moment I get to slide my feet into these boots for the first time. The nubuck beauties from Topshop are not only super high and completely stunning, they're also really comfortable. The softness and warm look of nubuck balances the bold appereance of such long boots nicely. Though nubuck is very delicate just like suede, so I hope for the sake of getting to wear these boots as much as possible that the snow won't come anytime soon.

You might have already seen these boots on quite a few bloggers, I first spotted them on Mungolife four years ago and it was love at first sight! I didn't dare to order them then and that really annoyed me afterwards. They finally arrived home two years later after a lot of eBay hunting and I just couldn't be happier with them still! And I keep reading that over the knee boots happen to be in again this winter. To be honest, I didn't even notice them ever being out...

Arvoin muuten hetken laittaisinko tähän asuun kiiltävän vai mattapintaisen vyön, en kuitenkaan ehtinyt sovittaa molempia vaihtoehtoja ja nappasin kiiltävän, koska mattaisessa on kultaiset metalliosat. Näin kuvia katsellessani vaihtaisin ehkä kuitenkin siihen mattapintaiseen, kuinka ärsyttävää tehdä moinen huomio jälkikäteen!

With the boots I wore this gorgeous pink, fluffy, big cardigan. Or at least I think it is a cardigan... This old christmas present of mine is completely round when laid on a flat surface, with two sleeves sticking out. I always wear a belt with it, cause I've yet to figure out how to wear it without. I had some trouble deciding whether to wear this glossy belt for this outift or a matte one and with no time to try both, I chose the shiny one as the matte one has gold hardware. Looking at these photos, I'd go with the matte though, so annoying to make such a realisation too late!

This ethnic looking statement necklace is again made by my mom. Freshwater pearls are incredibly beautiful, one pearl can shine in shades ranging from purple to turquoise.

So that was it for this autumn outift. I really liked this soft and warm look, it's a shame I don't really have other such voluminous knits. Perhaps I need to try once again if I can still come up with more ways to wear this strangely shaped cardigan...

Sequins and suede

Sequins and suede – a couple of my favorite things. I notice I use the term favorite quite a lot, but then again isn't it great to have a wardrobe full of favorites? The 'nice' ones can stay at the stores for all I care... Another sign of good purchases is that the favorites in this outfit are all over a year old and I still feel joy every time I wear them.

This suede jacket is without a doubt one of my best purchases from last year, it just looks perfect to me! I'd been craving for a beige suede jacket for a long time until I found this stunner from Mango spring last year. It was so popular that it took me a lot of patience to get mine, but when I finally got my hands on one in my size and it fit perfectly, I just couldn't not buy it.

I keep a constant eye on Mango's leather jacket selection as they're affordable yet beautiful. This jacket cost me 99 euros, which I think is a great price for real leather. And this isn't even super plain like affordably priced items in good materials often tend to be. All the details like the epaulets on the shoulders, the zipped cuffs and the pockets and buttons give it a perfect finish. The warm tone of beige and the gold hardware make a beautiful combination. If I had to think of some negatives, light colored suede is very delicate and if there's even a slight chance of rain, this jacket stays at home, and whenever I'm wearing it, I'm extra careful not to smudge it.

Underneath the soft suede, I've got a glimmer of bling in the form of a brown sequin t-shirt, another favorite from last year. The accessories followed the neutral brown-toned colorscheme and these comfy cognac oxfords are one of my most used heels ever. It does show too, especially in the many marks and dents in the heels... Damn those cobblestones!

Ihanaa uutta viikkoa sinulle!

And hey, even though I'm definitely not a fan of autumn, the orange leaves make a great background to outfit photos and how about the light? Backlighting might not bring the best out of all colors, but it does add a lovely, warm feeling to the photos. I wish you lovely new week!

Miss Purple in Trastevere

I did shoot a few outfit photos too while in Rome, though my travel outfits were mostly very simple and comfy "shorts and a tee"-combinations. You always dream of a perfectly fabulous travel wardrobe, but when it's time to fit a week's clothes into a smallish suitcase, you usually end up packing the most versatile and easy-to-pair pieces. And flat shoes of course as there's always a lot of walking to do when traveling.

When you have a limited selection of clothes, you also end up trying pairings that you wouldn't normally think of at home. I'd never worn these two favorite garments of mine together, because they're both purplish and I'd usually rather go for contrasts. Surprisingly this turned out to be one of my favorite pairings of the trip! I also often had to rely on braids even though I'm not a big fan of them, but the warm weather combined with the local water turned my hair into a coarse, frizzy mess that a simple ponytail couldn't rescue.

These photos were taken at the district of Trastevere on the western side of the Tiber river. Trastevere was one of my favorite places in Rome with it's atmospheric old town and charming little streets and alleys. You could also spot locals there unlike the tourist crowded city center around Piazza Navona and the Spanish steps. Of course there were plenty of tourists in Trastevere too and it was rather funny that when we stopped to take outfit photos at this quiet alley, suddenly every fellow tourist that was passing by and happened to notice our shoot, wanted to have their photo taken at the same location too!
