Khaki, shades of brown, and The Hat

No niin, hyppäsin minäkin sitten mukaan hattutrendiin! Paitsi etteihän tämä minulle ihan uutta ole - rakastan hattuja, koska niiden alla koen olevani jotenkin piilossa, turvassa. Introvertille mieluinen olotila.

Uh-oh, who's jumped on the hat bandwagon now? Technically though hats are nothing new for me, in fact I've loved hats for a long time. I somehow feel very safe when I'm hiding underneath my hat, which as an introvert I thoroughly enjoy. In the winter time I've been sporting my nearly OTT handcrafted flower hat from Tallinn and for the past two summers this straw hat has been fixated to my head. But a hat that would be suitable for autumn(/spring?) has been missing in my collection.

As the wide-brimmed felt hats started creeping into the fashion landscape last autumn, I also became curious to try one. They're so gorgeously feminine! But in a sudden surge of practicality, I already saw myself poking innocent strangers sitting next to me on a bus with the brim. And can you even see anything from underneath? But on my last H&M order for the cashmere sweater, I also included a couple of hats with a more moderate brim. The grey one went straight back as the brim was too stiff and straight, but this back ordered camel beauty that finally arrived last week has the most gorgeous soft and bendy brim. I love it so much that I keep dreaming of adding a black or grey one to my collection. Would I finally dare to try one with a proper wide brim? We'll see, but I can so picture this hat being fixated on my head for every brown shaded outfit in the autumn, I love it! And not least for it's bad hair day cover up abilities!

Dressing up has felt super easy, fun and motivating for the past weeks and there's a clear reason for that. I finally found the perfect jeans, two of them actually!

Like I've told you a million times, I'm a denim girl at heart and so there isn't really any piece as important in my wardrobe as those perfect jeans. We're talking about those everyday jeans now, those that go with just about everything - the denim blue skinnies. And I've had a perfect denim blue skinny shaped hole in my wardrobe for the past couple of years which has at times nearly driven my nuts! But when you've got a clear vision of how perfection looks like in your head, it's not easy to find those perfect ones. Let's take a closer look at my requirements...

The perfect wash

The first thing I look at jeans is the wash and sometimes I think I must be the most picky person on earth when it comes to the wash of my jeans. Denim blue jeans should have a good wash, I don't like solid blue denim at all. The perfect naturally distressed look. Not those horrid horrid distinct patches that don't blend in at all, eurgh. I see lines that are way too clear even in otherwise really good looking jeans on the high street. And I just can't stand them! Also, the distressing on the thighs should not go too low below the knee as that visually shortens your leg. And I'm not a big fan of distressing on calves, if there must be some, then it better be very subtle.

The perfect color

Yup, that denim blue. But there's many variations of the denim blue. Light denim fits spring and summer, but the most versatile pairs are in mid to dark blue denim. The blue shouldn't be too bright either. Bright blue denim goes nicely with bright colors (like (kuten vaikka tässä), but with those soft, neutral, earthy shades, a more subdued blue is definitely in order. And that subdued blue goes with everything, even the brights! I quite like a slightly greenish shade of mid blue denim.

The perfect cut

Skinny, skinnier, skinniest. My previous favorite pair retired slowly, because it just wasn't skinny enough. Closer to straight than skinny actually. I live by the rule that the wider the leg opening, the longer the jeans should be. Bootcuts and flares should just skim the ground. So the benefit of really tight skinny legs is that you can wear them with any kind of shoes. They end at just the right point, so that they don't cover that pretty shoe and denim transfer to lighter shoes isn't an issue. With ankle boots, the hem slips perfectly into the shaft with no sloppy bunching above the boot. In addition to the skinny leg, I also look for a relatively low waist. High waisted jeans just don't flatter my body at all. I also like my pockets quite low, never hitting the thigh though.

The perfect fit

Tight! I always try to squeeze myself into the smallest size I possibly can, because jeans always stretch. There's nothing worse than an ill fitting pair of jeans, you always feel a bit sloppy and never truly confident if the fit isn't right. That's the reason I hestitate to wear my light denim jeans, cause they've started bagging below the bum. That extra fabric below the bum is my main fit issue in jeans. Maybe my booty just isn't bootilicious enough? Another requirement there is that the jeans wouldn't completely flatten my bottom. And the waist shouldn't be too tight either, love handles aren't a good look...

Ja täydelliset farkut löytyivät...

Mangosta!

Uptown-malliset farkut värissä dirty - matala vyötärö ja push-up leikkaus pepussa.

And I found my perfect jeans at...

Mango! I've seen loads of almost there jeans at Mango for a few years already and have almost purchased some, but every time there's been something a little off. The last time it was those too striking calf distressings... But at the end of August, I popped into Mango and ended up trying on a bunch of their new A/W collection jeans. And I was amazed to find so many good ones that I couldn't even decide which ones to get! So I did what I always do, slept on it and returned the next day with a clear idea of which two to buy.

The Uptown cut in the shade dirty - a low waist and a push up cut for that perfect booty. And my favorite thing is the perfect wash, with rather strong, but still natural distressing! And that perfect slightly greenish shade of darkish mid blue denim. Love, love, love! Jeans just don't get better than this!

For the second pair, I was considering the Olivia cut in either the shade soft denim or blueblack. Soft denim was like something between the Uptowns that I got and the blueblack Olivias, dark denim blue with slightly slightly more gentle distressing. A good basic pair. But I ended up going for the blueblack shade, which I believe will offer me more variation. Slightly higher waist than the Uptown, a dark blue denim with beautiful, subtle distressing. Perfect for those darker outfits and underneath black boots. Love these as well!

Farkut kustansivat muuten 39,95€ per pari, mikä on mielestäni ihan kohtuuhinta farkuista.

Phew, that was quite a lot of denim thoughts (congrats for making it to the end ;)), but I'm happy to finally get them off my chest. I've been meaning to write about them for so long, but just haven't gotten around to it before. But luckily this was perfect timing, cause instead of just venting, the story now had a happy ending. I thoroughly recommend checking out Mango if you're looking for a new pair of jeans! They were 39,95€ each, which I feel is very reasonable for quality denim.

Rainy day bling

Onkohan svetarit jo tänä syksynä ihan out?

On a rainy day, I usually dress in dark shades. I would absolutely love to be that fun pop of color, who fights the gloominess with brights, but for practical reasons I usually end up with these boots and this jacket. I'm just too much of a wuss to wear suede shoes or jackets in the rain... I actually really need a pair of black, high heeled ankle boots, cause I'm still on a fence whether I actually like the 'pistol' style or not. They go very well with these dark skinnies, but when paired with for example my khaki jeans, they do break the line of the leg, so that combined with the low heel, they make my legs look somewhat short and stubby. But how hard can it be to find a feminine, high heeled pair of leather ankle boots? It's not like I haven't had them on my wishlist for several years already...

I kinda steered off topic now, so let's get back to this outfit! Luckily color isn't the only way to spice things up, cause there's always bling! Are sweatshirts out already? I'm not sure, but I really like this embellished sweatshirt that I finally gave into despite my doubts. It's so comfy and easily fits another top underneath for that much needed extra warmth. Another thing I'm not sure about is how much bling is too much in one outfit? But still I decided to go for my embellished ASOS bag, I the emerald rhinestones are so pretty with this greyish purple.

Now I'm off to enjoy a quiet Friday night. There's a storm predicted and it honestly doesn't get much better than getting cozy at home when it's storming outside, I get all warm just thinking about it! I hope you have a lovely Friday night as well, wish you a great weekend too!

Earthy tones

On Monday I was in love with the rain and autumn didn't feel quite that bad at all, today my upmost weather thought was "this is not fun anymore". Cause it's gotten so freaking cold here all of a sudden! Yesterday I wore a leather jacket just like I'm used to recently and almost froze. This morning I was already contemplating a wool coat and boots, but ended up going for a parka and booties instead. And the cashmere sweater - this is pretty much like a colder weather alternative to my outfit a week ago! Even the small dusty pink bag remains. When I bought it, I thought it'd be more of a summer bag, but judging by how much I've been using for the past few weeks, it makes an awesome autumn bag as well. Somehow a little dab of colour makes earthy neutrals feel even better!

Sateessa on jotain rauhoittavaa.

Enkä edes halua luopua siitä kokonaan, a certain darkness is needed to see the stars.

Sade sopii hyvin introverteille kotihiirille. Sateella voi hyvällä omallatunnolla pysytellä neljän seinän sisällä, syventyen kirjoihin, blogeihin, kuvien käsittelyyn, kuka mihinkin. Kesähelteellä ja auringonpaisteella koneella kököttäessä tulee melkein syyllinen olo. Rakastan kesää ja usein en kesäpäivänä osaa asettua aloilleni kunnes olen tehnyt sen iltapäiväkävelyn auringossa. Silloinkin, kun ei yhtään huvittaisi. Sade antaa luvan vain olla.

Sade on myös kaunista. Vaikka taivas onkin harmaa, maailma näyttää levolliselta. Ei ole voimakkaita kontrasteja, ei vahvoja varjoja. Kostuneilla pinnoilla ja lätäköissä on kauniita heijastuksia, katuvalot erottuvat voimakkaammin. Olen aina rakastanut sateella otettuja valokuvia, etenkin kaupunkikuvia. Sateen kastelemassa kaupungissa on vaan jotain niin kaunista. Sateinen Aleksanterinkatu hämärän laskeutuessa, kaupungin valot, sateenvarjojen alla kotiin kiiruhtavat ihmiset, oijoi. Tai sateinen Lontoo? Aijai. Harmikseni en keksinyt arkistoistani tähän yhtään sadekaupunkikuvaa. Lumipyryä olisi kyllä löytynyt.

Mutta ei, lumipyryistä en tykkää. Mutta sade, sade on ♥

Don't you feel like rain is something that should be hated? Cause all you ever hear is people around you complaining about the rain. Guilty as charged, that rainy June absolutely sucked!

But to be honest, I quite like the rain. There's something very soothing about it. Especially when you can just sit inside where it's warm, with dim lights, listening to the rain drops on the windows. When you finally get home from the rain and get to change into dry clothes. Not to mention the moment you get to curl up under your down blanket at night whilst the sound of rain transports you into dreamland.

I used to say that I like rain, because it matches with how I feel inside. Luckily my mind's not in that dark of a place anymore, though I doubt the darkness will ever leave me completely. I don't want it to either, a certain darkness is needed to see the stars. God, I love that quote!

The rain is perfect for introverts and homebodies. When it's raining, you can stay inside without feeling bad about it. Immersing yourself in books, blogs, photo editing, whatever takes your fancy. Whereas in the summer sunshine, you almost feel guilty for sitting at home in front of your laptop. I love summer and often I can't quite settle down at home before I've made my little afternoon stroll in the sun. Even when I don't feel like it. Rain allows you to just be.

Rain is also beautiful. The sky might be grey, but the world looks peaceful. No stark contrasts, no strong shadows. Damp surfaces and rain puddles are full of beautiful reflections, the street lights shine even brighter. I've always loved rainy photos, especially in the city. There's just something immensely beautiful about rainy cities. Rainy dusk in Helsinki, with the citylights and people rushing home under their umbrellas, the sole thought makes my heart sing! What about rainy London? Not a rare occurence, but oh-so-beautiful! Unfortunately and shockingly I don't think I've got a rainy city photos in my archives to add to this. Only blizzards.

But no, I don't like blizzards. But rain, rain is ♥

My signature look + what's yours?

Into Mind lähestyy signature lookin määrittämistä mood boardin kautta, ilman oman olemassa olevan vaatekaapin asettamia suuntaviivoja.

Mikä on sinun signature lookisi?

It's been a while since I stumbled upon this very interesting blog about defining your style and building a functional and minimalistic wardrobe, called Into Mind. Unfortunately my online ADHD mind that's constantly jumping back and forth between a million tabs hasn't allowed me to dive deeper into it yet, but on my last visit there I came across the concept of signature style. It's pretty self-explainatory, but here's how Into Mind defines it:

"Your signature look (or uniform) is the flagship look of your own personal style. It should represent its core elements, the essence of your style, all in one outfit. Your signature look is the outfit people picture you wearing when they think of you, and your one and only look if you were a cartoon/fairytale/pixar character."

This is something that resonated with me straight away. But to encapsulate my style into one outfit seemed like mission impossible. Into Mind offers an in-depth guide into this, but again that online ADHD mind of mine... However, one morning recently as I was squeezing myself into my favorite pair of skinny jeans for about the millionth time in the past two weeks, wondering whether it'd be time to change it up, it hit me.

Maybe this is my signature look? In all it's simple and ordinary glory. Jeans, pumps and a tee or a blouse. Topped with a leather jacket or a blazer if needed. Voilá! And suddenly it all made sense...

I would even leave a little more room for my signature look than Into Mind does. For me it's just a certain silhouette and a certain balance in the colorscheme. Skinny jeans and a slightly loose, shortish top. Darker bottom, usually mid to dark blue washed denim, and a lighter top in a soft shade to not make me look even paler than usual. Always with a sprinkle of color, black usually only in accessories and leather items. High heeled pumps and fairly relaxed shoulder bag with minimal other accessories or jewellery.

I can hear my inner eccentric screaming for something extraordinary to add to my signature look. I also can't help thinking if I'm really that boring and unoriginal that my signature look is the same as just about every second person's? But I love it in jeans, pumps and a tee. I like what I see in the mirror and feel very comfy, so why not?

Of course your signature look evolves over time and with seasons too. In the winter I trade my pumps for boots, leather jackets for wool coats, t-shirts for jumpers. Having a signature look doesn't limit you to only that one outfit nor outfit concept, but gives your style a foundation and a frame. From which you can continue building a functional wardrobe and navigating through the endless waves of fashion.

Whereas Into Mind creates your signature look based on a mood board, I would simply ask the question: "What's the outfit you choose to wear on a I've-got-nothing-to-wear day when you just want to look very you while feeling comfortable and confident?" Though I'm sure it'd also be interesting to try the mood board approach to see if I'd end up with the same result or if I'd find something completely new about myself and my preferences!

What is your signature look?

Ihanaa viikonloppua!

Ahhh, I know I'm getting a bit repetitive with my weather updates, but I just can't get over how amazing this unusually warm and sunny September weather is! I'm in Finland for crying out loud, it's normally so much worse! In fact I'm loving it so much that I've almost forgotten it's autumn and all the traditional autumn shades are sitting in the closet unused. This outfit could have just as well been from the spring, don't you think? This mint green suede jacket that I bought from the sales last December (27€ for genuine leather, still can't quite grasp it!!) didn't get enough wear this summer, I don't even know why and it makes me a bit sad. But then I realized how perfect it is with my new grey pumps. This is pretty much how I envisioned wearing it when I bought it, so luckily it still wasn't too late!

Have a lovely weekend!

Cashmere & denim

Once I took the tags off that cashemere sweater, I haven't wanted to let go of it at all, so this has been my outfit for a couple of days already. I'm just really feeling these simple denim outfits and neutral shades right now. And light and soft shades. It just doesn't feel right to wear anything dark with constant sunshine like this! There's plenty of time for the dark during the next six months, so why not enjoy light as long as possible? That's what I'm gonna do for as long as the sunshine stays and I don't run out of light and soft outfit ideas...

Should a blogger practise what she preaches? In April I wrote a post "5 questions I ask myself before purchasing", which has been one of my most read and liked posts of all time. The questions were absolutely genuine though I can say I'd never had such a concrete five point checklist to go through in the fitting room before. But as always, writing my thoughts down made them even more clear and ever since that post I've had my own words echoing around my head everytime I've been shopping. Hauting me even. Did this really make me go 'wow'? This is a bit too long, didn't I say that if it's too long/short, tight/loose, etc. it should stay in the store while you keep searching for the perfect one. If you've got the guts to push such advice into the interwebs, then the least you can do is stick to it yourself. And it's all good, I've been making even less (bad) purchases. And on the other hand, I've also managed to shed some of the useless procrastination from the process; if it's a clear "wow" and in my budget, then why should I put myself through weeks of to-buy-or-not-to-buy agony?

But no one's perfect, right? Not even the seemingly calm and collected blogger. When I tried on this cashmere sweater I'd ordered from H&M, my initial reaction was disappointment. Too long, not loose enough -> return! It then spent a week in it's plastic bag on the edge of my bedside table, waiting for that last fitting before taking it back. Why would it need a last fitting? Well, who knows, but when it was time for that last fitting, I actually realized it's quite cute when you turn the hem a little bit. In theory I think that clothes that need to be adjusted every time you wear them kinda suck, you rarely feel confident in them, cause you're always worrying about if it stays in place like you want it to. But this sweater is sooo soft. The shade is so pretty and exactly what I wanted. And as someone who's always cold, I even felt quite warm when I was trying it on. And I love the seam on the back (not to mention the booty the combination of perfectly fitting jeans and the folded sweater creates, haha)! Where else could I find even half as good of a cashmere sweater for under a hundred euros? With a discount code, this was a tad under 60€. Which is a lot for a sweater for a penny pincher like me, but on the other hand I refuse to buy acrylic and therefore I've got a gaping hole in my closet when it comes to sweaters.

The sweater got to stay.

Now to not be a complete hypocrite, should I add a sixth point to the list; "Are you absolutely sure that you will use the garment anyway although it didn't check all the previous boxes?". Or maybe just add a disclaimer; "The blogger reserves the right to temporary changes in her decision making process at any given time"!

Casual Sunday in beige and pink

What a wonderful fall we've having, can't believe it's mid-September and I can still wear short sleeves! Today's outfit was just perfectly relaxed for a casual Sunday and though it was one of those "just threw on the first things that came to mind" outfits, I ended up really liking it. Especially the beige and pink colorscheme. And denim too, but denim is like a neutral for me, it just goes with everything!

This sweater always reminds me of the very beginning of my blog, it was featured in my first ever post and no other garment holds such strong blog related memories for me. It was quite strange to return to that first post now. It tells the story of this sweater, but more importantly, I'd also listed a few goals in the last paragraph and I'm so pleased to say that I feel like I've reached each and every one of them to some degree. Based on the lovely comments I've received, even the one about bringing a little bit of joy to others, which makes me feel very humble and blessed, so thank you! Luckily there's plenty of room still for me to improve and right now I'm feeling very on top of my game when it comes to this blog. And what a great feeling that is!

Suosikkipaidassa

Väriä siinä on aina tarpeeksi, muttei koskaan liikaa.

Paitsi tietysti viikonlopun toivotukset, eli ihanaa viikonloppua sinulle! :)

Jeans, pumps and a nice top. The easiest outfit formula in the world and it always works! Especially when the jeans fit like a glove, the pumps are super comfy and the top is one of your favorites. If not the favorite. I think this top actually deserves the the favorite title, that's how much I use it. It's my go to choice on those I've-got-nothing-to-wear days. I never feel under- or overdressed in it, the combination of jersey fabric and chiffon flowers is both casual and formal. The color is always enough, but never too much. The only fault I can find in it are the numerous fuzzballs it's acquired over four years of heavy use, but this top I'm gonna wear until it completely wears out! Which I hope won't happen any time soon, cause then there's the possibility I might really have nothing to wear some days...

Just like today is a day when I don't really have much to say... Except of course some weekend wishes - have a lovely weekend! :)

Canonin 50mm-objektiivit vertailussa: 1.4 vs 1.8

This one's for the fellow bloggers and other photography enthusiasts - my review and comparison between the Canon "nifty fifty" lenses aka EF 50mm f/1.4 USM and EF 50mm f/1.8 II. All my outfit photos and most of my other blog photos have been shot with the 50mm 1.8 and although it's a great glass for the money, many times I've found myself longing after the 50mm 1.4, wondering if the upgrade would be worth the extra money.

So needless to say I was very excited when I got the chance to test the 50mm 1.4, thanks to a blog collaboration with Canon, and for the week I had the lens I did get quite a good feel of it. There were two aspects I was most interested in; the autofocus accuracy and the bokeh provided by the bigger aperture, both of which are essential for great outfit photos. So, here's some thoughts on it from a fashion blogger's point of view. I don't claim to be a photography expert, but I certainly had a lot to say, so I hope this will be helpful to others who might be thinking of the same questions!

Automaattitarkennus / Autofocus

50mm 1.8: My main issue with the 50mm 1.8 is the autofocus, which keeps driving me crazy all the time! It's just not accurate, it's completely all over the place and can be very, very off. I can handle it when I'm shooting something static myself, but when I have to hand over the camera for someone else to take my outfit photos, it becomes a major issue. Usually I stop it down to 2.2 to ensure I'll end up with something usable. I've sometimes made the calculation that only around 30% of the full body shots are somewhat usable and it very well may be the exact 30% where the not very photogenic yours truly is looking like a mess! It's very frustrating to have to choose the final photos based on which ones are in focus instead of which ones are truly good.

To be fair, I have to say though that my 1.8 is over four years old and though I did not shoot outfitphotos, or full body portraits when I purchased it, I'm pretty sure the autofocus was slightly better back then. But ever since starting my blog in June 2013 I've struggled with it and the 30% figure is from late summer, early autumn last year. This summer I also had a little accident when the wind blew my tripod down and the 1.8 ended up taking the hit, since which the autofocus has been a nightmare with bigger apertures. Last year when all the stars aligned, I did get some really good shots out of the 1.8 and for the comparison below, I chose photos that show what both lenses are capable of at their very best.

50mm 1.4: The first outfit photos taken with the 1.4 were absolutely spot on, all shot wide open at 1.4. And while the autofocus might not have been 100% accurate if you're pixelpeeping, most of them were perfectly usable.

Another thing that pleased me was that I seemed to be in focus from head to toe whereas with my 1.8 my feet (and the oh-so-important shoes!!) were often a bit fuzzy. I always thought it was to do with the narrow dof of the 1.8 wide open, but I guess not since it didn't happen with the 1.4 wide open!

After those first photos, I was almost ready to drop the 400€ for it, but unfortunately not all of the photoshoots during the week turned out so perfect. Yes, the 1.4 autofocus accuracy was miles ahead the 1.8 and made the outfit photoshoots a whole lot smoother, but it was not the magical fail-safe solution. Of course stopping down made for some great results, but who buys a wide aperture lens only to stop it down most of the time? When shot wide open, even the perfectly focused photos were a tiny bit soft. But not enough for it to be an issue unless you're a pixel peeper looking at 100% crops.

Bokeh eli taustan sumentuminen / Bokeh aka background blur

Rauhallisena sunnuntaiaamuna siis pystytin kolmijalkani vakkarikuvauspaikalleni, jotta saisin varmasti kunnon vertailun tehtyä.

It's no secret that I love bokeh. I mean, who doesn't? It's nearly essential for outfit photos to make the model (or the model-wannabe fashion blogger) really pop against the background. The wider the aperture (the smaller the f-stop), the blurrier the background will get, aka more bokeh! So of course one major difference between the lenses is the maximum aperture, 1.4 vs 1.8.

I was excited to try out how big of a difference it actually makes in the photos, so I set out to do a proper comparison with the same background and same distance with the help of my tripod. Now I originally wanted to make the comparison between the two lenses, but because I couldn't for the life of me get a single focused shot with the 1.8 wide open, I had to go with both shots taken with the 1.4 to give you an accurate idea of the difference between the apertures.

(Kuvaa saa klikattua suuremmaksi / Click to enlarge)

And to be honest, it isn't much! Not that I can see at least. So if you're looking for significantly more bokeh with the upgrade to 1.4, you might be dissapointed.

Now let's look at a close up to compare the look of the bokeh. Cause the close up is how I actually managed to get a shot that was even somewhat close to being somewhat acceptable in terms of focus with my 1.8... Both shots are now taken with the same aperture of 1.8.

(Kuvaa saa klikattua suuremmaksi / Click to enlarge)

The bokeh of the Canon 50mm 1.4 is a lot softer and creamier than on the 1.8. If you look at the ground on the right photo, you can also see the bokeh of my 1.8 looks almost like motion blur, which is really strange! You can also notice a difference in color. The 1.4 has more contrast, a cooler tone and overall more clear looking colors. But this isn't a major factor for me, cause I always postprocess my photos anyway. Below is the same close up with a smaller aperture, where you can see the 1.4's bokeh is rounder compared to the pentagonal

(Kuvaa saa klikattua suuremmaksi / Click to enlarge)

Rakenne / Built quality

I've only ever handled three lenses in my entire life, so I don't really have much to compare to. But straight away as I got the 1.4 out of it's box, I noticed a significant weight difference compared to the 1.8. The heavier 1.4 felt a lot sturdier and it was quite funny when I changed back to my 1.8 at the end of the testing period and the whole camera was so light that it felt like a toy! This was also the first time I got to know what a real focus ring is. In the 1.4 it's wide and rubbery, so you actually get a good grip of it and it turns so much smoother than the tiny little ring in my 1.8. It definitely makes manual focusing a lot easier.

Lopputulos / The conclusion

Toivottavasti meillä on loistava yhteinen tulevaisuus edessämme!

Mikäli muuten tuli mieleen jotain kysymyksiä näihin objektiiveihin liittyen, niin kommenttiboksissa saa toki kysellä, vastaan mielelläni sen minkä osaan!

I wish I could provide you a simple conclusion, the absolute truth of which is the better lens. As I was packing away the test lens, I thought to myself how it was great to be able to test it and see that the grass isn't that much greener on the other side of 300€. The Canon 50mm 1.4 was not three times as good as the three times cheaper Canon 50mm 1.8. It was very good, but not perfect. The bokeh was beautiful, but there wasn't significantly more of it. The autofocus was a lot more accurate, but still a bit hit and miss.I didn't think I'd rush into any purchases.

Then I returned to shooting with my 1.8 and it just didn't work out at all. Maybe it was the fall in the summer that broke something in it, but there was no choice than to purchase a new lens. I pondered and pondered whether I'd just buy a new 1.8, maybe I'd get an excellent copy of it (unfortunately there can be better and worse copies of lenses). It's a nice lens and for the past four years, spent a lot more time on my camera than the kit lens.

I was also looking at the Canon 85mm 1.8, in the same price range as the 50mm 1.4. It's autofocus has gotten a lot of praise and despite the smaller aperture, it would have had more bokeh to offer, thanks to the longer focal length. I could have very well gone for the 85mm lens if I was only looking for a lens to shoot outdoors. But I also shoot a lot indoors and for that the 85mm would have simply been too long on my crop sensor Canon 70D camera.

I read countless of reviews and opinions and every lens seemed to have it's fans. Even with the 50mm ones, the votes seemed to distribute quite evenly. I'm useless when it comes to making decisions and I have a hard time accepting the fact I'd buy something that isn't perfect. But there was no such thing as perfection in this, just loads of pros and cons. Finally I just had to make The Decision. Cause any decision would be better than dragging it for weeks and not shooting in the mean time. In the end I went for the Canon 50mm 1.4 and based on it's maiden voyage today, I'm very pleased with my choice. I hope it'll prove to be the right choice in the long run!

If you've got any questions about the lenses, I'd be happy to answer them in the comment box as much as I can!

On tosin toinenkin syy miksi jymähdin tähän asuun neljäksi päiväksi.

Oikeastaan kaipaisinkin blogimaailmaan tietynlaista paluuta juurille.

Both of my eBay finds in one outift! An outfit I spent a full four days in last week. I often get stuck to an outfit if I really like it! A couple of weeks I wrote about my longing for softer autumn hues and though the weather here in Finland is absolutely glorious at the moment and not autumn-like at all (yay!), this outfit is pretty much what I was after. Light grey shoes open up a heap of different possibilities compared to the same old black ones. And yes, they're just as comfy as the black ones!

But there's also another reason why I was stuck in this for four days. It's cause I was hoping to have it photographed for my blog, but the stars just didn't align this time. Well, they almost did, but unfortunately that set of photos was a complete #fail. Hence the first ever indoor outfit photos in this blog...

I almost feel like I should say sorry, but on the other hand I don't. And want to keep the door open for possible future indoor outfit photos, now that I finally found a half decent spot for them. Shooting outfits isn't always the easiest task and I feel bad for having to bother someone else with them. A lot of outfits go unpublished just because I didn't get the chance to shoot them. Sometimes it'd be nice to just snap up a quick photo myself and share it just for the sake of it.

In a way I'd kinda wish to see a little return to the roots in the blogging world. To the time when we blogged just because it was fun. Even if not all outfit photos looked like editorials and not all content was in alignment with building your brand. I originally fell in love with the whole fashion blogging concept because it was more approachable, more down to earth and real than the fashion magazines with every little detail thought down to a t. Not that I don't appreciate, even admire, those kinds of blogs, or that I wouldn't always want to do my very best, because I know how good I can be when I set my mind to it. But sometimes I'd just love to blog without overthinking and overanalyzing. Without the, in my case set only by myself, quality standards. Just do my thing, no matter how raw and real, as long as it's truly me.

Though next time, if and when I'll be shooting indoors again, I'll make sure to clean up that wire mess and throw the tripod case out of the frame... I did it this time too, but only after the test shot, which of course happened to be the best. And a little bit of a mess is quite me, to be honest! ;)

Yellow kind of feeling

Hey guys! So this outfit is actually from last Saturday, but it would have fit today's sunny mood just as well. It's amazing how much the sunshine actually lifts my mood! That said, I get quite sad knowing that the days are getting shorter so quickly... But that's it about the weather, let's get back to the outfit now!

I'd spent the whole week in my heels, so on Saturday I wanted to go for something more casual and also something brighter than the dark autumn shades I'd already slipped into. The answer to both of my wishes was of course a pair of yellow sneakers! They are, by the way, the only sneakers in this girl's shoe collection. And to be really matchy-matchy, I chose a yellow top to go with the sneakers. A top that in fact is a dress, but that makes a great top when it's two bottom layers are tucked into jeans - I think I've worn it more as a top than a dress. And of course I couldn't help adding the gorgeous eBay find leather blazer for maybe a tiny bit of edge to a casual weekend attire. You're gonna be seeing a lot of it in the near future!
